Marc Marder has composed over 100 soundtracks for film, as well as for theater and concerts. In 1991, he received the Deutscheschallplatten Preis for the soundtrack of silent feature Sidewalk Stories by Charles Lane. His theater music has been performed at the Comédie Française and his concerts have been commissioned by the French Radio. Marder has also received Best Music Award at the Luchon Festival for his work on the television drama The Trench of Hope by Jean-Louis Lorenzi. Marder is an experienced bass and chamber musician pursuing a soloist career while collaborating with various artists.

Marder has collaborated with director Rithy Panh on 22 films; seven of which were presented in the Official Selection at Festival de Cannes. The Missing Picture (2013) also won the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes, and was nominated for the Academy Awards as Best Foreign Film. For this same score, Marder was awarded the SACEM-France Musique Prize for Best Film Music. It included the commission of an orchestral work, Symphony No 1, which premiered in late 2015 by the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra.
