Childhood of a Leader

UK, Hungary, France 2015 | 116 minutes | French, English | English, Hebrew subtitles

An American family moves into a mansion in rural France shortly after the end of WWI. The father (Liam Cunningham) is busy coordinating the Versailles Treaty peace negotiations, while his devout Christian wife (Berenice Bejo) deals with their young son's tantrums.

The directorial debut by 28-year-old Brady Corbet, better known as an actor (Mysterious Skin, Funny Games), proclaims a new and exciting voice in cinema. Corbet, who won two awards at the Venice Festival (Best Debut and Best Director in the Orizzonti program) combines a fantastic cast, spectacular 35mm cinematography and an excellent soundtrack to present an intelligent and troubling allegory of the rise of fascism in Europe.
